Steel asset tracking
ArcelorMittal, a leading steel manufacturer serving automotive, home appliance, and construction industries, has improved asset tracking across its large 225,000 m² facility with Wittra Networks’ real-time location system (RTLS).
Challenges
ArcelorMittal needed to accurately track the location of steel products and heavy trolleys within an immense industrial area. The company required:
- ±5 meter accuracy across 95% of the site.
- ±0.5 meter pinpoint precision in 18 specialized zones for the precise parking of heavy trolleys.
- A system resilient to the harsh radio environment prevalent in steel manufacturing.

Solution
Wittra Networks answered these challenges with a state-of-the-art hybrid RTLS platform. Unlike conventional systems dependent on extensive cabling and hardware, Wittra’s network is entirely wireless, drastically reducing deployment complexity and infrastructure requirements.
A limited number of strategically placed Gateways ensure complete site coverage. The hybrid RTLS approach leverages multiple wireless technologies to provide reliable and accurate positioning, even in radio-challenged environments such as large steelworks.
Business benefits
A primary advantage of Wittra’s solution is the elimination of costly and cumbersome cabled infrastructure required by traditional Ultra-Wideband (UWB) competitors. This innovation translates to outstanding value:
- 90–95% lower network cost compared to any competitor.
- Rapid deployment and minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
- Flexibility to adapt and scale as ArcelorMittal’s needs evolve.
