Accuracy using sub-1GHz radio frequencies
Welcome to a new solution in achieving IoT accuracy through technology.
It’s a known fact that less than 20% of all connected devices remain fixed in the same place permanently. The 80% majority is instead moved over short and long distances and between indoor and outdoor locations. While this type of movement is completely normal, it’s also one that creates certain challenges for existing technologies.
Currently, wireless networks are built to provide optimal positioning accuracy when devices remain either indoors or outdoors. However, this same accuracy breaks down when devices move between the two. This is due to a simple fact. Namely, wireless positioning technologies face difficulties in penetrating walls, ceilings, doors, and other fixed objects. Additionally, sub-1GHz solutions have been unable to deliver the level of accuracy needed. On the other hand, GPS technology causes too significant a decrease in battery life to be effective.
Ideally, a cost-efficient solution would be one that works as well indoors as it does outdoors, without compromising on either battery life, range, or accuracy. This would enable multiple location intelligence applications to become a reality within the industries of healthcare, asset management, supply chain monitoring, production, and more. That’s the good news. The even better news is that Wittra now has exactly the technology needed for delivering accuracy over varying ranges with smart power usage.
The Wittra solution for accurate positioning
Sub-1GHz. With its proven advantages indoors, outdoors, and over long distances, it’s the foundation for the Wittra solution and the starting point for our technology. Thanks to sub-1GHz and to four key concepts we’ve succeeded in identifying, Wittra is now setting a new benchmark for accuracy within the Internet of Moving Things (IoMT).
1. Positioning using new Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology.
By using more information from ToF communication than usual, we can deliver higher than normal accuracy.
2. Seamlessly fusing Sub-1GHz technology with other technologies.
By combing different technologies such as GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth, we can leverage their collective benefits to our advantage.
3. Using active radio channel management.
By employing this technology, we can achieve smart power usage that extends battery life for longer than ever before.
4. Combining sensory data (such as that of a manometer and accelerometer) for location intelligence.
This allows for not only improved location positioning, but 3D positioning as well.
Bearing these points in mind, Wittra can deliver optimal positioning accuracy without eliminating range or decreasing battery life. The sub-1GHz wavelengths demonstrate excellent signal penetration, even when indoors. And our field tests have shown an accuracy of +/- 10 meters over +300m. What’s more, by seamlessly fusing our sub-1GHz technology with GPS or Sigfox, we can reach even farther. We are also refining our accuracy as closely as possible at all ranges.
